Road Trip from Boston to Niagara Falls, NY. What are some worth it places to stop for nature adventures, breweries, and food along the way?
My boyfriend and I want to do a road trip from Boston to Niagara Falls, NY. I've done some basic research of what routes we could take and places we could stop along the way there or home (we may go home through Vermont and stay in Stowe). We like slightly adventurous nature activities (kayaking, waterfall hunting, hiking, horseback riding), finding good places to eat, museums/libraries to an extent. My boyfriend is also big into breweries.
I want to make sure we hit some really cool places that aren't "tourist traps" and are worth the drive. We narrowed down places we'd like to go but after mapping it out, we realized it would be a looooot of driving. In the effort of enjoying ourselves, and not tiring ourselves out (because we also want to find breweries to stop at and places to eat, not to mention getting to wherever we are staying overnight), I'm thinking we should narrow our list down.
So anyway, here is the list. Are any of these really worth it or really not worth it? From my initial map out, this would be over 5 days.
Watkins Glen State Park, Taughannock Falls, Thousand Islands & Alexandria Bay, The Adirondack Park, and Rail Biking at Revolution Rail Co.
Does anyone recommend any breweries, restaurants, or places to stay in NY? I realize it's a huge state but any suggestions would be welcome. I've also read the best time to go to Niagara Falls is in Spring or Fall as the Summer is packed with people. Is that advice we should try to follow?
